Jewelry has always been more than decoration—it’s a way to carry meaning, memories, and protection in something small yet powerful. At Stanza, we believe that every piece tells a story, and we infuse meaning into our designs by drawing inspiration from poetry, symbolism, and timeless craftsmanship.
The Stanza x Porsche Metalworking Experience
Recently, we had the opportunity to co-host an exclusive workshop with Porsche, where guests experienced firsthand how metalwork can capture both precision and sentiment. Porsche, known for its speed, strength, and cutting-edge engineering, met Stanza’s love for craftsmanship, poetry, and emotional depth in a workshop that blended both worlds.
During the event, participants crafted metal amulets, shaping and engraving their own personal symbols—some as expressions of love, others as personal talismans to carry into the future. But the beauty of this craft is that it’s something anyone can do, anywhere.
A Hands-On Journey
We want you to experience what it’s like to craft something meaningful with your own hands, just as our artisans do for every Stanza piece—with love, care, and the belief that jewelry is more than adornment; it is a blessing, a memory, a piece of emotion cast in metal.
How to Make a Metal Amulet at Home
Whether you want a protective talisman, a lucky charm, or a personal keepsake, crafting your own metal amulet is a rewarding and surprisingly accessible process. You don’t need advanced skills—just patience, creativity, and a few basic tools.
What You’ll Need:
✔ Copper metal sheet (0.1mm thick, 70mm x 100mm)
✔ Tape (to secure the metal while working)
✔ Cutting board (to protect surfaces)
✔ Hammer
✔ Engraving chisel or any fine-point metal engraving tool
✔ Scissors (for cutting the design on paper)
Step 1: Designing Your Amulet
The first step is deciding what you want your amulet to represent. A symbol of strength? A wish for the future? A reminder of someone special? Just as poetry condenses emotion into words, a well-crafted amulet distills meaning into form.
Popular amulet shapes include:
✔ Circles – A symbol of wholeness and eternity.
✔ Hearts – Love, devotion, and self-acceptance.
✔ Stars & Moons – Dreams, guidance, and intuition.
✔ Abstract Shapes – Unique designs that carry personal meaning.
You can freehand your design onto a sheet of paper or print out a template, making sure it fits the size of your copper sheet.
Step 2: Cutting & Preparing the Design
Once you've settled on a design, use scissors to carefully cut it out from the paper. Tape the cut-out shape securely onto the copper sheet—this will serve as a guide for the next step.
Pro Tip: If your design includes intricate details or patterns, keep the paper in place while working to ensure accuracy.
Step 3: Etching the Design onto Metal
With your design taped onto the copper sheet, place the metal securely on a cutting board to keep it stable. Using a engraving chisel and a hammer, lightly trace the outline of the shape onto the metal by carefully etching along the edges of the paper cutout.
Once the basic outline is transferred, you can remove the paper and refine the engraving by deepening the lines, adding additional details, or incorporating decorative textures.
Step 4: Adding Texture & Dimension
For extra character, use the hammer to lightly tap certain areas, creating textured effects. This adds depth and gives the amulet a more handcrafted feel. You can also experiment with layering engraved lines with hammered textures for contrast.
Step 5: Transforming Your Amulet
Now, decide how you want to carry your amulet. Some ideas:
✔ Punch a small hole and add a chain to wear it as a necklace.
✔ Attach a thin ribbon or cord to turn it into a bookmark.
✔ Keep it in your pocket as a personal lucky charm.
✔ Frame it or attach it to a keyring as a thoughtful keepsake.
More Than Just Metal—A Poetic Keepsake
Crafting with metal is an ancient practice, one that connects us to traditions of protection, symbolism, and meaningacross cultures. The beauty of this process is that each strike of the hammer, each engraving, is intentional—it carries a thought, a wish, a piece of you.
At Stanza, we believe that jewelry is poetry in wearable form—a physical expression of love, resilience, and identity. Just like a poem can be read and felt differently by each person, a handcrafted amulet holds unique significance for its maker. It can be a promise, a protection, or a silent reminder of something deeply personal.
By crafting your own amulet, you step into the process that our artisans go through every day—shaping metal with love, care, and blessing, creating something that is not just beautiful, but meaningful.
Whether you’re making this for yourself or as a gift, a handcrafted amulet is more than an accessory—it’s a reflection of what you cherish, an imprint of what matters most.
So, what will you create? And what will you choose to protect?
Sincerely yours,
