FREQUENT CARE QUESTIONS

HOW SHOULD I TAKE CARE OF MY JEWELRY?

Keep your Stanza jewelry looking timeless with these care tips:

  • Store Individually: To prevent scratches or tangling, each piece should have its own spot, ideally in the Stanza box or pouch it came with. Gemstones need extra attention to avoid bumps and scratches against each other.

  • Keep Chains Fastened: Avoid tangles by ensuring chains are clasped before storing.

  • Use Desiccant Crystals in Humid Climates: To fend off tarnishing, pop a small packet of desiccant crystals into your jewelry's storage area if you live in a humid place.

  • Dark, Cool, and Dry Storage: All of our jewelries, from plated gold solid gold pieces, thrive in a dark, cool, and dry setting. Storing sterling silver in an airtight container can prevent oxidation and tarnish.

  • Avoid heat and moisture: Keep your jewelry away from hot and humid environments such as saunas, which can damage the metal and gemstones.

  • Mindful of Chemicals: Everyday products like perfume, hairspray, makeup, and lotions can dull your jewelry's sparkle. Apply these products before putting on your jewelry.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Just as sunlight can fade fabrics, it can also cause certain gemstones to lose their color. Keep your pieces out of prolonged exposure to the sun to maintain their vibrant hues.

  • Avoid ultrasonic Cleaners for Gemstones: If your jewelry features gemstones, please refrain from using sonic cleaners as it may damage or dislodge the gems.

Simple steps can make a big difference in keeping your Stanza jewelry as captivating as the day you received it.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY JEWELRY?
  • Store Individually: To prevent scratches or tangling, each piece should have its own spot, ideally in the Stanza box or pouch it came with. Gemstones need extra attention to avoid bumps and scratches against each other.

  • Keep Chains Fastened: Avoid tangles by ensuring chains are clasped before storing.

  • Dark, Cool, and Dry Storage: All of our jewelries, from plated gold solid gold pieces, thrive in a dark, cool, and dry setting. Since all of our gold-plated pieces are plated over sterling silver, storing them individually in airtight containers can prevent oxidation and tarnish.
HOW SHOULD I CLEAN MY JEWELLERY?
  • Gentle Cleaning: Use a soft, non-abrasive, and lint-free cloth for polishing. This method is perfect for rejuvenating the shine without causing any damage.

  • Mild Soap Solution: For a deeper clean, a mild dish soap mixed with warm water works wonders. Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub, then rinse with clean water. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Stay clear of 'dip' polishes or abrasive cleaners, as they can be too harsh and damage your jewelry over time. Similarly, we advise against using polishing cloths treated with cleaning agents or polishing substances.

  • Avoid ultrasonic Cleaners for Gemstones: If your jewelry features gemstones, please refrain from using sonic cleaners as it may damage or dislodge the gems.

A little care goes a long way in keeping your Stanza pieces as stunning as when you first fell in love with them.

WHAT CAN ERODE OR DULL MY JEWELRY?

Water, chemicals, and heat are some common factors that can erode or dull your jewelry:

  • Pool, sauna, & ocean: It's advised to remove all jewelry pieces, from plated to solid gold before diving into pools, oceans, saunas, or even your shower. Chlorine and salt water can be harsh on precious metals and gemstones, leading to loss of luster or even structural damage. Gold and silver, in their elegant vulnerability, are particularly prone to the damage of chlorine.

  • Handsoap & body wash: When washing your hands, take a moment to remove rings to avoid soap's subtle yet cumulative dulling effect on the metal. The soapy residue from handwashing, bathing, and showering can cloak your jewelry in a dull film, dimming its natural shine.

  • Makeup & Perfume: Apply perfume and makeup before donning your jewelry to avoid direct contact. These substances can affect the shine of your pieces. Ensure all applied makeup and perfume are completely dry before wearing your jewelry to preserve the shine.

  • Care for Porous Stones: Gems like turquoise and lapis lazuli, with their porous nature, demand extra care. Prolonged water immersion can allow liquids to infiltrate, causing discoloration or damage. These sensitive stones are best kept away from beaches and intensely hot or harsh environments.

  • Care for Pearls: Keep pearls dry. Avoid showers, dishwashing, and swimming. Chlorine and water exposure can cause a variety of problems for pearls, including discoloration, weakening, and even damage to the nacre.
WHAT IF I HAVE METAL ALLERGIES?

If gold-plated earrings may cause allergies, rashes, or itchiness, apply clear nail polish to the post and scroll. Reapply as needed once it wears off.

WHAT ARE THE USUAL SIGNS OF WEAR OF GOLD JEWELRY?
  • Warping: bending, twisting, or becoming misshapen of bangles and rings.

  • Scuffing: scraping, rubbing, or scratching of the gold surface.

  • Erosion and Dulling: Darkening and oxidation due to contact with skin oils and cosmetic products.

  • Stretching and snapping of gold: The delicate nature of gold can be susceptible to damage. We might be able to fix it. Please contact us, before you loose it. (Unfortunately, if you loose any pieces of it, we are unable to fix it).

At Stanza, we only use freshwater pearls for our jewelries. However, due to the delicate nature of freshwater pearls, there are some care tips to ensure your pearls shine like the first day you've received them.

  • Keep pearls dry: Avoid showers, dishwashing, and swimming. Chlorine and water exposure can cause a variety of problems for pearls, including discoloration, weakening, and even damage to the nacre.

  • Avoid chemicals: Avoid direct contact with chemicals found in perfumes, hairsprays, and makeup. Apply these products and wait till they set and dry before wearing your pearls. Also avoid using harsh jewelry cleaners on pearls

  • Store separately: Store pearls separately in a soft-lined container to prevent scratches from harder jewelry pieces.

  • Avoid hard surface: Avoid scraping pearls on hard surfaces to prevent chipping or scratching their delicate surfaces.

By treating your pearls with the care they deserve, you can preserve their elegance for generations to come.

DIAMONDS

At Stanza we carefully select diamonds within the GHI color and SI-I 1-2 clarity. For more details about diamonds check out HOW TO: Diamonds.

While diamonds are hard, they can still be damaged under specific circumstances.

  • Regular Cleaning: Soak your diamonds shining by soaking them in gentle detergent-free soap and use a soft, clean toothbrush to remove any remaining dirt. Be gentle around the setting to avoid loosening the diamond. After cleaning, rinse your diamonds under warm running water.

  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Protect your diamonds from harsh chemicals found in household cleaners, cosmetics, and perfumes. These can dull the diamond's surface. Remove your diamond jewelry before using such products.

  • Store Carefully: When not in use, store your diamond jewelry separately in soft cloth pouches or within a lined jewelry box. This prevents diamonds from scratching other jewelry pieces or being scratched themselves.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can affect the metal's durability that holds your diamonds in place. Store your diamond jewelry in a shaded, cool place.

  • Handle Sparingly: The oils from your skin can affect a diamond's brilliance and fire. Try to handle your diamonds by their edges and clean them regularly to maintain their sparkle.

  • Be Mindful of Activities: Remove your diamond jewelry during physical activities that could subject it to sharp blows or harsh conditions, which might damage the stone or setting.

STANZA GEMSTONES

At Stanza, we meticulously select semi-precious gemstones and crystals, celebrating their luminous clarity and vibrant hues.

Our team carefully sources and expertly crafts exclusive shapes and hand-cut facets to ensure every Stanza gemstone stands out as a singular masterpiece.

Each stone is not just a piece of jewelry; it's a narrative of color, origin, and personal journey—designed to tell its unique story through you.

Caring for gemstones requires a gentle approach to preserve their natural beauty and integrity. Here are some care tips:

  • Gentle Cleaning: Use a soft brush and mild soap with warm water to gently clean your stones. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners that can damage the surface or reduce the gemstone's luster. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

  • Avoid Chemical Exposure: Chemicals found in household cleaners, cosmetics, and perfumes can be harmful to semi-precious stones. Apply cosmetics and perfumes before putting on your gemstone jewelry to minimize contact with these substances.

  • Protect from Extreme Temperatures: Sudden temperature changes can cause some stones to crack or to dislodge. Avoid exposing your gemstone jewelry to extreme heat or cold. This includes leaving jewelry near heating vents, windowsills, or in cars on hot days.

  • Store Carefully: Wrap each piece in a soft cloth or place it in a padded jewelry box. Store jewelry pieces separately to avoid scratches or impacts from harder stones. This is especially important for softer gemstones that can easily be scratched by harder materials.

  • Wear with Caution: Remove gemstone jewelry during physical activities, such as sports or gardening, to prevent impact damage or exposure to dirt and chemicals. Also, remove jewelry before swimming or bathing to avoid prolonged exposure to water which can weaken settings or dull the gemstone’s polish.
